Witchy Women
So many women are afraid to speak about the magical ways they percieve the world. The knowings, the phone call right after you think of someone, the precognition, the way a medicinal plant lights up to get your attention, the feather on your path, the feeling of sitting under a tree, the dragonfly appearing when you ask for guidance, and so much more. These are our intuitive gifts, our birthright! We’ve been conditioned to fear our own natural abilities. The word witch has had such negative connotations for centuries. When you begin to dig deeper you realize witches were herbalist, midwives, and medicine women. They weren’t afraid of the Spirit world when it came to birth, life, and death. The community honored their wisdom. These women understood the great spiral and the turning of the wheel. How many generations back did our ancestors practice their knowing? Can we remember too?
Personally, I have known I sensitive since I was a child. I loved being outside with plants and animals. I had an affinity for caterpillars and frogs. As I have gotten older, I have been blessed with amazing guides and teachers. For instance, I learned Reiki and volunteered to work with hospice patients to increase peace as they approached death. And, I have run into people who question my beliefs because it rubs up against theirs. I am grounded in my knowing of myself and I am not here to convince anyone of anything. I do not feel the need to defend myself unless I am being accused of some doings. I do not align with dark magic or manipulating others with psychic abilities or spells. I am a nature witch. I love rituals that honors nature, the divine, and the Holy Spirit in us.
Why am I writing about this on a crafting website you might be wondering. Well it is because I decided to offer a craft night making witch bells for your home. And something in me got a little scared that people might get angry or accuse me of something negative. I felt that inner voice warn me-be careful. Can I offer something having to do with creating sacredness, protection, and strenth for your home? Creating witch bells around Halloween seemed safer. But the truth is I want to create intentional crafts blended with magic, whimsy, and feminine power more often than Halloween. Are there other women out there looking for such opportunities to create?
I guess we will find out! November and December are opportunities to gather and honor harvest time, winter solstice, folk magic, in addition to holy days. Let’s craft some magic!
